Sage Pay Availability (Resolved)
Sage Pay have advised of an external issue which is affecting their service.
BT has confirmed a fire at their exchange in North Paddington, London. This has impacted a large number of UK businesses, including Sage Pay and the major banks that route transactions through the exchange. Sage Pay has taken action to mitigate this issue by moving transaction processing to their backup data centre. However, the issue has affected connectivity to some banks who rely on the exchange and Sage Pay are currently unable to process via those banks at this time. This includes (but is not limited to) Lloyds Cardnet and Halifax Bank of Scotland customers.
Please note, as banks and payment providers look for alternative transaction routing solutions away from the North Paddington exchange, this could create some general capacity issues, resulting in transaction ‘time-outs’.
Sage Pay will continue to post updates to their Sage Pay System Monitor page.
Update @ 18:00: ”All acquirers are now processing. However, customers may still be experiencing some intermittent authorisations.”
Update @ 15:30 12 April: ”We have now received formal confirmation from British Telecom that the Paddington Exchange is fully functional and their network issue has been resolved.
All transactions are once again processing through the primary communication lines and we are not experiencing any transactions timeouts. We will continue to closely monitor transaction volumes and performance and update you should we observe any changes in service.”

There are however reports of others being affected nationally depending on how their Internet provider routes their Internet traffic.
Update @ 18:00: Damage to the exchange has reportedly been caused by flooding and fire although the sequence of the events is not clear at present. The fire is now believed to be out and flooding has been stopped. Water pumps are currently on site to clear water from the exchange, at which point engineers will be able to fully assess the damage.
An initial ETR has been set as 12:00 on the 2 April 2010 although further updates will follow as and when they become available.
Update @ 16:00 2 April: Work on this issue is still ongoing, however power and the majority of services have now been restored.
